The Edgar Loudermilk Band: A Modern Force in Bluegrass Music

The Edgar Loudermilk Band stands as a beacon of contemporary bluegrass, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation. Led by the award-winning bassist and vocalist Edgar Loudermilk, the band has carved a niche in the bluegrass scene through heartfelt songwriting, masterful instrumentation, and dynamic live performances.

The Man Behind the Bass: Edgar Loudermilk

Edgar Loudermilk's journey in bluegrass is marked by dedication and excellence. A two-time SPBGMA “Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year” and the 2024 Josie Music Awards “Bass Player of the Year,” Loudermilk has garnered over 40 industry accolades. His signature baritone vocals and songwriting prowess have become his trademarks, resonating deeply with audiences.

Before forming his own band in 2015, Loudermilk honed his craft with renowned groups such as Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Marty Raybon & Full Circle, and Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out. These experiences enriched his musical perspective, laying a solid foundation for his leadership in his current ensemble.

Band Members: A Symphony of Talent

The Edgar Loudermilk Band comprises a lineup of exceptional musicians, each contributing unique skills to the group's cohesive sound:

  • Zack Autry: A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Zack brings outstanding mandolin skills and harmonious vocals. As a co-writer with Loudermilk, he plays a pivotal role in crafting the band's original material.

  • Anthony Howell: Joining the band in 2022, Anthony is an award-winning banjo player from Mississippi. His accolades include first place in the 2023 National Bluegrass Banjo Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival and the 2021 Alabama State Championship banjo title.

  • Jake Goforth: At just 17 years old, Jake joined the band in 2024 as a guitarist. Hailing from Troy, North Carolina, he is known for his soulful vocals and proficiency in Tony Rice-style guitar, adding depth to the band's rhythm section.

Former member Jeff Autry, acclaimed for his stellar flatpicking skills, was integral to the band's early sound. His collaboration with Loudermilk created a harmonious blend that captivated audiences. Autry has since embarked on a solo project with Turnberry Records.

Discography: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation

The band's discography reflects their commitment to both preserving bluegrass traditions and exploring new musical territories:

  • The Dark Side of Lonesome: This album showcases Loudermilk's songwriting range, featuring tracks like "I'm Going Home" and "The Deal That Won’t Go Down," co-written with Zack Autry. The album blends traditional themes with contemporary sounds, offering listeners a rich auditory experience.

  • My Picasso: A single that tells the story of a wild mustang, highlighting the band's storytelling prowess and musical depth.

  • The Banks of the River: An upbeat gospel number co-written by Loudermilk and Autry, capturing the spirit of old-time fiddle and banjo tunes.

Live Performances: Captivating Audiences Nationwide

The Edgar Loudermilk Band is renowned for their engaging live performances, gracing stages at various festivals and events across the country. Their dynamic stage presence and musical synergy have made them favorites among bluegrass enthusiasts.

The Legacy Continues

The Edgar Loudermilk Band continues to enrich the bluegrass genre with their authentic sound and heartfelt performances, ensuring that the tradition of bluegrass music thrives for future generations.
